Farm2Plate group program will encourage the development of healthy food habits by allowing participants to experience and manage the entire process of meal preparation; from growth, preparation, and consumption… to the clean-up afterwards!
PROGRAM PURPOSE AND GOALS:
Higher-order skills:
Higher-order skills will be developed through planning and managing tasks among group members, organising the kitchen area, and sequencing/timing recipe steps. Participants also gain knowledge of etiquette, basic kitchen and food safety, and nutrition.
Living skills:
With a focus on achieving occupational and daily living goals, participants will be exposed to writing and following recipes, measuring ingredients, and preparing various fruits, vegetables, and proteins. All of these tasks integrate motor and bilateral coordination skills.
Engagement with food:
Engagement with food will be encouraged through growing our own fresh herbs and vegetables which will be incorporated in various meals. By knowing where our food comes from and having the responsibility of producing it, we will build confidence around trying new things.
